IFPS Validation System (IFPUV)
The EUROCONTROL Integrated Initial Flight Plan Processing System (IFPS) has been in operational service since March 1996. The function of IFPS is to receive, process and distribute flight plan data to Air Traffic Service Units (ATSUs) within participating States of the IFPS area and to other ATSUs, as determined by the flight plan originator.
Flight Plans that pass syntax and semantic checking within the IFPS software are processed and distributed automatically. Flight plans which fail semantic checking are referred to an IFPS Operator for manual correction and may be rejected.
In an attempt to improve the automatic processing rate of flight plans within IFPS a Validation System (IFPUV) has been introduced into service, with effect from 28th January 2000, which enables those originators who so wish, to submit their flight plans to a dedicated test system for validation, prior to their submission to the operational system.
The IFPUV contains the current IFPS software and receives copies of updates to the operational environment database, fed by live updates. The IFPUV is therefore an accurate reflection of the operational system and is established solely for the purpose of submitting test flight plans.
